Farther north in the lakes of the White Mountains, the Arizona Game and Fish Department's fish hatchery system stocks lakes with trout, including the rare Apache trout. Anglers generally have the best luck with trout in the summer months.
In southeast Arizona, about 20 miles northeast of Nogales, Patagonia Lake offers anglers the chance to catch bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill; the lake is also stocked with trout from October through March.
